Grok*and Awe

A Taos-based Mind Travel Adventure Collaborative Learning and Creation Weekend

Thursday, July 8 – Sunday, July 11, 2021
Taos, New Mexico

See the World with New Eyes

Remember what it feels like to look at the world with a child’s mind, learn new things, and revel in the sheer joy of play, make-believe, and creating something together?

Grok and Awe is a mind travel adventure and limited to three participants. It is an invitation to reignite your passion, recharge your soul, and see with new eyes – all in one expansive weekend.

Deep Dive into Creativity

You will immerse into an intimate, deep dive into the surreal, absurd, and unexpected through laughter, play, fun, ritual, nurturing food, clear mountain air, exploration, and multimedia creativity (individual and collaborative art-making).

Come away with a deeper connection to yourself and your co-creators, an idea/art notebook of your making, and the completion of a collaborative art piece utilizing found objects and the brilliance of the groups’ decisions.

Grok and Awe isn’t your mama’s woo-woo new age retreat, yet spirit is an inherent, natural piece of this. And this is not trauma resolution or therapy. There are plenty of excellent offerings and facilitators out there to help in that capacity. However…

Would you like to step off the treadmill of self-help workshops that promise release from supposed flaws in your character that “keep you” from your purpose? You know, the ones where you pay a premium for a guru, thought leader, or “spiritual teacher” to tell you you’re a screw up unless you keep taking their workshops and buying their books?

Are you ready to transcend the buzzwords and new age formulations, the messages that say you are damaged and broken, and the only way to salvation is through this paradigm?

Are you ready to practice learning how to trust yourself and your own inner knowing to show you the way? And most importantly, have a blast doing so?

Are you an explorer at heart, ready to see and experience some remarkable aspects of off-the-beaten-path New Mexico? Are you interested in learning a wee bit of geology, anthropology, and history to boot?

Are you ready to delight in your inherent creative nature and utter silliness?

Do you want to laugh your ass off? (Aka “Ass Laughing™,” coined by my friend, Twila, owner of Austin’s The Herb Bar following a mutual belly laugh session)?

I encourage you to deep dive into collaborative play and exploration with Rev. Maggie Duval, the Mind Travel Agent, as your tour guide.

When: Thursday, July 8 – Sunday, July 11 (arrival Wednesday the 7th by 6 pm, with departure on Monday the 12th encouraged,).

Caveats:

  • You must be vaccinated for COVID-19 and be able to share proof of said vax.
  • Limited to three people
  • I have three cats and a dog. If you have allergies, this won’t work. And the pets are participants too. You also might have one sleeping with you.
  • You are responsible for your transportation to my place. Please note that I am approximately 3 hours from the Albuquerque Sunport.
  • At this time, there is no “attend but not stay with me/not stay to get a discount” option, sorry. In the future, I plan to have Mind Travel Adventures where we meet at my place, but you can stay elsewhere so we can have more attendees, but not this go-round. Think of it as an awesome slumber party.
  • There may be all guys as participants, all gals, or a mix. You need to be comfortable with the luck of the draw.

To reserve your spot, $500 for option one, $400 for option 2, and $300 for option 3, as *non-refundable* deposit. *Grok means to understand something deeply and on an intuitive level, to understand something thoroughly and beyond logic, to establish a deep rapport with someone. The word grok was coined by Robert A. Heinlein who wrote Stranger in a Strange Land. In the novel, grok is a Martian loan word that literally means to drink, but is used to indicate a situation in which one possesses a deep intuitive and spiritual understanding of something. Grok is a verb, related words are groks, grokked, grokking. Most popular in the 1960s, the word grok is still fairly popular among technical and computer workers, as well as scientists. [Grammarist]
